High School Volunteering
⭐ Volunteer with S.T.A.R.: Lead, Learn, and Make an Impact!
Volunteering at the high school level is about more than just logging service hours—it's about gaining real-world leadership experience and developing empathy and specialized skills that stand out on college applications. By joining S.T.A.R. (Sundrop Tutoring And Robotics), you become a vital part of a mission-driven organization dedicated to bridging the educational gap for neurodivergent youth in the Albany community.
🛠️ Roles We Offer:
We are seeking dedicated high school students for the following key roles:
Academic Tutor: Provide one-on-one personalized tutoring in core subjects (Math, Science, English) to help students grasp challenging concepts and build strong, foundational study habits. You'll gain experience in curriculum reinforcement and adaptive teaching.
Robotics Counselor/Mentor: Guide students through our hands-on robotics curriculum. This role involves teaching fundamental STEM concepts, coding logic, and basic engineering principles, often in preparation for local Lego Robotics competitions. This is perfect if you have experience with coding or building and love problem-solving.
🌟 What You Gain:
High-Value Service Hours: Earn verifiable hours for school requirements (e.g., CAS).
Specialized Skill Development: Learn effective communication and teaching techniques tailored for neurodivergent learners.
Leadership and Empathy: Develop patience, responsibility, and strong leadership by taking ownership of a student's educational success.
Direct Community Impact: Witness the immediate growth in a younger student's confidence and academic performance right here in your local area.
Join S.T.A.R. and turn your knowledge into genuine community empowerment!
